Pastor Joseph T. Walker, Jr. is a native of Barclaysville, Grand Bassa County, Liberia, West Africa. At an early age he embraced Christianity and joined the Zion Grove Baptist Church in Liberia. While at Zion Grove he served as Minister of Music, Financial Secretary, Musician for the Television Ministry and several other capacities until 1986 when his desire for graduate studies in Accounting led him to travel to the United States of America to pursue that goal.
Upon arrival in the US, he joined the Ebenezer Baptist Church in Durham, USA where he availed himself to that Community of Believers and served on the Music Board, Deacon Board, Secretary, and stand-by Van Driver. His tenure at Ebenezer was from 1986–2004.
The year 2003 brought a turning point in the life of Pastor Walker and his musical career, when his wife, Overseer Elspeth Walker, in obedience to the Holy Spirit established Redemption Harvest Ministries, Inc. and launched a new church, The Redemption Harvest Tabernacle of Praise.
Pastor Walker saw the need for his total commitment to the God-called work of his wife and decided to walk with her in ministry. He currently serves Redemption Harvest Ministries in the capacities of Pastor, Chairman, Board of Governing Council, Member, Board of Directors, Minister of Music, Web Master, and in whatever capacities that demand his talents and skills.
As a leader, On July 1, 2006, Pastor Walker founded The Playing Hands School of Music based on a Biblical Principle, Luke 12:48: “To whoever much is given, of him will much be required; and to whom much was entrusted, of him more will be asked”.
Pastor Walker states that “The Playing hands School of Music” is a medium through which he can give back to the Durham Community as well as the Redemption Harvest family. Classes are currently conducted at the Redemption Harvest Tabernacle of Praise Church edifice in Durham. He hopes to expand the school’s curriculum through the inclusion of voice culture, wind instruments, dance and other aspects of music.
Any questions regarding this school please call (919) 489-5819. Pastor Walker also envisions the school as an iconic institution of Durham’s future. He hopes that future instructors will effectively impart the knowledge of music that God has allowed them to obtain, and that as students engage this course, they will approach it with an open heart, desiring to achieve the maximum benefit from their studies which will further benefit their home, church, community or even nations of the world.
